Controversy surrounding the release of The Last of Us Part 2: Remastered has been addressed and challenged by a member of the Naughty Dog dev team.

While the remastered version of the game includes new features, game modes, and more, fans have been calling out developer Naughty Dog for re-releasing a game that is not even half a decade old.

Some called the company the“most wasted developer in gaming”for focusing on re-releasing old titles rather than prioritizing new content and IP.

However, in a new interview withVGC, Naughty Dog dev Matthew Gallant addressed the backlash surrounding the upcoming The Last of Us: Part 2 remaster, stating he doesn’t understand fans’ “consternation” around its announcement.

“I don’t understand some of the consternation about what The Last of Us Part 2: Remastered offers,” he began. “It’s the best way to play The Last of Us Part 2.”

Gallant then added that the remaster also gives players the chance to dive into the game for the first time as well as providing PlayStation 5 owners the chance to replay the game on the current gen console.

“If you’re a new PlayStation owner and new to the franchise we want to get you the best experience with all the hardware features on a PS5 native version of the game. My sense is there’s an audience for this for whom the idea of a PS5 version is thrilling. I’m also speaking for myself. I’m excited we can bring this to the fans, and if it’s not for everyone, that’s fine.”
