Star Wars fans are divided about a lot of aspects of The Acolyte, but they all seem to agree on one thing: Sol is an incredible character.
The Acolyte has proven to be a hit so far, crushing records on Disney+, even as fans find themselves divided overthe third episodeof the new Star Wars series.
But The Acolyte’s lead, played by Squid Game alum Lee Jung-jae, has won over those same fans even though most are also convincedthe character is doomed.
In a lengthy post on theStar Wars subreddit, fan RedeyesGoldDragon kickstarted the conversation with a post that just said, “Say what you will about The Acolyte, but Lee Jung-jae is genuinely great as Jedi Master Sol.”
Fans throughout the lengthy thread have only positive things to say about Sol, who has so far been portrayed as a Jedi torn between his oath and his affection for his former Padawan.
As many fans have pointed out, the character feels a lot like Qui-Gon Jinn. And much like Liam Neeson’s Jinn, Jung-jae has won over the audience, thanks in large part to the clear passion thatJung-jae brings to the role.
“He has big Qui-Gon energy.” one fan said. “He seems like the type that’s more interested in being a servant of the force than being a jedi.”
“He’s on record saying Qui-Gon Jinn is his inspiration for the character, which is basically everything you want a Jedi to be.” another fan pointed out.
“He’s a great actor,” another fan added. “If you haven’t watched Squid Games I highly recommend it (his other work is great too). He is also not an English speaker and learned in 4 months for this role which is super impressive.”

“So far he’s easily the best part, apart from Carrie-Ann Moss, who I hope makes another appearance at some point.” one fan said.
While the show may be divisive so far, it is at least reassuring to know one new character has earned the respect of fans.
