The Boston Celtics handed the Golden State Warriors a good old fashioned beatdown on Sunday afternoon. ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith couldn’t hold his tongue at the half.
After 24 minutes of action, the Celtics held a huge 82-38 lead over the Warriors that would end up in 140-88 thrashing as the final score.
With Golden State’s general manager Bob Myers as a fellow panelist, Smith looked into the camera during the halftime show and called the showing out for what it was.
Stephen A. Smith blasts Warriors for abysmal Celtics loss
Smith called out the Warriors for embarrassing themselves against the Celtics in a rematch of those Finals, per ClutchPoints on X:
“This was an epic butt whooping,” Smith said as he began his tirade. “They should postpone the game, and give the Warriors about a week to recover. I ain’t never seen anything like this.”
“This is an epic butt whooping. This is so bad Kendrick Perkins needs to take off that suit… We want to apologize to the American people.“Stephen A. Smith on the Warriors getting absolutely DOMINATED by the Celtics in the first half 🗣pic.twitter.com/ycB0qxvc4e
Smith even went as far as to say that the Warriors should have gone home and that they’d be well served with a week off to recover.
The face of ESPN had much reason to come at the Warriors beyond the scoreboard. They wound up shooting 17 percent from three to the Celtics’ 51 percent.
Golden State also committed a putrid 17 turnovers on the affair. Smith doesn’t need much to light his fuse.
However, this performance from a Warriors team that should be contending in the West caused a near explosion from Smith. It was very much warranted and made for one of the most entertaining halftime shows of the year.
