Spider-Man 4 is reportedly becoming a bit of a battleground between Sony and Marvel, with development continually hindered by behind-the-scenes “disputes.”
However, a fourth film (uncharted territory for the web-slinger on the big screen) is proving difficult to get over the line, with rumored disagreements about its creative direction.
With speculation ramping up, especially asDaredevil: Born Againcontinues filming, a new report suggests that Sony is trying to “rush” the next entry.
Spider-Man 4 causes divide between Sony and Marvel
According to insiderDaniel Richtman, Sony and Marvel can’t seem to get on the same page about Spider-Man 4.
“I can also confirm that Sony wants to rush Spider-Man 4 no matter what,” he wrote. “Amy Pascal wants Kevin Feige involved in a future Miles movie. Tom Rothman is the one who is fighting Feige on what to do with Spider-Man 4 and he’s the one trying to rush it. He also wants Watts back to direct while Feige wants someone new and to have Watts on other projects.”
Tom Rothman reportedly wants Jon Watts to return and direct ‘SPIDER-MAN 4’ but Kevin Feige wants a new director.

Other reports have claimed the movie will set upAvengers: The Kang Dynasty(or whatever it ends up being called), but it’s unclear if it’ll be a “street-level Civil War” with Daredevil and co. or another multiversal adventure with the other Spideys (or, shudder, Sony’sroster of characters likeMadame Web, Morbius, and maybe evenVenom).
Reacting to the rumors, oneRedditorwrote: “Tom Rothman is an existential threat to the future of the Spider-Man franchise. Rothman has nothing but contempt for comics and comic book movies.”
