Solo Leveling follows the hero Sung Jin-woo, an E-class hero who earns the ability to improve his powers after being saved from death in a mysterious dungeon. He’s the only one who has this ability, in a world where fantasy creatures are invading our universe through portals.
Korean manhwa has a trope of video gaming in real life, a little similar to the progression system present in the Isekai Japanese anime genre. But instead of being sent to another world, their original world is one where video game logic just kind of makes sense. And for Solo Leveling, they exist in a universe where these warriors are called hunters.
Solo Leveling has received a strongly positive reaction from fans and critics. The anime scored an 8.5 on iMDb and an 8.65 on MyAnimeList, indicating viewers have been consistently enjoying the show so far.
It’s not hard to see why: engrossing mythos, fascinating lead character, and some wicked gore. What more could you want from a great anime?
