The Fossil-focused segment of Pokemon Go’sAdventure Weekhas been slammed as a “pay-to-play” event by players dissatisfied with the lack of appropriate wild spawns.
Alreadybranded an “insulting” attemptfrom Niantic at making ancient ‘mons more accessible, Trainers continued to call out the developer for missing the mark.
“Why are these the type of spawns I’m seeing 90% of this event?” questioned one user onReddit, adding “As someone who loves Fossil Pokemon, it’s driving me crazy I’m not seeing the spawns I should.”
While the author admittedly encountered the “occasional” Kabuto or Aerodactyl, an image attached to the author’s post shows several wild Pocket Monsters, none of which were Fossils.
Others shared similar frustrations. “For real, I’m sick of getting Diglett, Bunnelby, and Drilbur,” one Pokemon Go player lamented.
“All events are pay-to-play now. If you want the good stuff, you need to use Lures, Incense, Incubators, or Raid Passes. This screenshot is the free stuff,” another reply stated.
The list of boosted wild spawns during Adventure Week is as follows.
Despite the occasion’s namesake, only three of these – Kabuto, Omanyte, and Aerodactyl – are officially recognized as Fossil Pokemon.
Players taking issue with the remaining five feeling like filler is to be expected, especially when numerous other eligible critters could have been included but have instead been made exclusive toResearchand Eggs.
Adventure Week concludes on August 12. A second component to the limited-time affair,Taken Over, begins on August 8, delivering boosted spawn rates of Rocket-controlled PokeStops, as well asShadow LugiaandCresseliaRaids.

While it remains to be seen if players will encounter any issues, some have voiced concern overpotentially being hit with false bansduring the takeover through no fault of their own.
