One of the Gods of Super Smash Bros Melee, Jason ‘Mew2King’ Zimmerman, has revealed why he stopped playing the game that made him a star.
For many years, Melee was dominated by five ‘Gods:’ Armada, Hungrybox, Mang0, PPMD and Mew2King. Now, only two remain.
Mew2King was one of the few Smash pros to make a name for themselves in more than one title, becoming one of Brawl’s elite talents while being a Melee force with his Shiek and Marth.
While Zimmerman hasn’t been playing much ofSmashlately despite streaming onTwitch,the MVG icon recently updated fans on his decision to move away from Nintendo’s flagship fighter.
Mew2King blames Smash’s “negativity” as he stops playing
In a YouTube video,Mew2Kingexplained that he has started to play a lot more games than just Smash – and it’s been for the better, as his primary game wasn’t helping his depression.
“I’ve been having a lot of depression, not only from people and events being canceled, but also the way people have been acting all the time. I find peoplewant to be negative… it’s always something negative!” he exclaimed.
According to Mew2King, this negativity is one of the big reasons he stopped playing Melee – something for which he apologized to his loyal fans.
“It got to me. Maybe I’m not as strong as I need to be mentally. The negativity got to me. That is a very large reason I was motivated away from the game,” he said. “I’m really sorry I haven’t been competing.”
Zimmerman concluded the video by announcing plans to start streaming onmore than just Twitch, experimenting with both YouTube and Facebook as other options to grow his content away from Smash.
