Last Week Tonight host John Oliver has responded to the harsh criticism from Elon Musk after one show segment went viral.
When it comes to being a late-night comedian who takes powerful people down a peg, there’s no one doing like it John Oliver.
The host of Max’s Last Week Tonight, Oliver has called out powerful folks from oil billionaires to the second-richest tech bro in the industry.
And it seems likeElon Muskdidn’t like Oliver’s December takedown of his legacy as he launched pretty harsh criticism towards him, but Oliver has now hit back with his own response.
Oliver finds Musk’s clapback a sign of having “weak skin”
Oliver and his team at Last Week Tonight aired a segment in Decemberwhere they dismantled Musk’s legacy by showing examples of the billionaire as being not what he claims to be in the public eye.
Musk recently responded to Oliver’s assessment of his life’s work writing on Twitter, “It is rather tragic to see an otherwise capable comedian like @iamjohnoliver become weak sauce. The reason he is not very funny these days is because he is too keen to pander to wokeness, which is fundamentally a lie, whereas great humor requires revealed truth.”
However,Oliver himself was asked to respond to these comments by TMZand the late-night talk show host did not hold back regarding his thoughts on Musk.
“I cannot possibly pretend to guess what’s in that man’s mind at any time,” Oliver stated, “He seems wounded. He’s definitely sensitive, that is a biological fact.”
When asked to respond to Musk’s claim that Oliver has “gone woke,” the comedian said, “I don’t know what that means. I don’t think he could explain what that means, and I think it means nothing. I don’t know literally what he’s talking about.”
Though his segment in December was his first long-form criticism against Musk, Oliver has called out the tech CEO in the past for allowing unsafe working conditions in his factories and denying his family’s enrichment during apartheid in South Africa.
