The patch notes for Diablo 4’s 1.4.1 update outline the many changes Blizzard Entertainment has implemented into Masterworking.

Masterworking hit Diablo 4 at the start ofSeason 4, ushering in a crafting system for players exploring the endgame content.

The mechanic enables users to enhance affixes attached to Legendary and Unique items up to 12 times. After leveling through all 12 ranks, an item should receive a 45 percent increase across its base affixes.

While the feature proved a welcome addition, the Diablo community quickly uncovered a few flaws. For one, thematerial costs for Masterworking felt astronomically high. Blizzard rolled out a hotfix that reduced the cost, but the system still required some more fine-tuning.
