Demon Slayer Season 4 has premiered in Japan, and unsurprisingly, the new episodes have already started garnering a massive reception.

Demon Slayeris no stranger to setting records. After all, the franchise spawned what is still the highest-grossing movie in Japan, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. Theanimefilm managed to make ¥40,430,000,000 in Japan, grossing over $500 million worldwide.

It’s no surprise, then, that the premiere of Demon Slayer’s fourth season, known as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training-, crossed a Japanese box office milestone in short order.

The Demon Slayer Season 4 premiere made over ¥1 billion in just over one week in Japanese theatres. The feature, a combination of the Season 3 finale and Season 4 opening, opened in screens there on February 2.

Though a far cry from the success of Mugen Train, that’s still an impressive taking for a makeshift theatrical rollout. Mugen Train got the full cinematic rollout, whereas this is really for fans who absolutely cannot wait to see Demon Slayer on the small screen.

You can see that reflected in how this film ranks in the Japanese box office overall. It’s insecond placeto Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, which is setting records of its own by becoming the highest-grossing movie in the Gundam franchise.

That said, Hashira Training is getting more showings in Japan, and the international release is coming soon as well. Fans in Britain and North America can see the picture in cinemas on February 23.
